How often should I have my piano tuned?
The best tuning schedule, the most "bang for the buck", is twice a year.
The reason for this is that the piano goes out of tune because of change in humidity.
There are two big changes: the piano goes sharp (especially in the center) in the
summer when the humidity is high, and then in the winter the piano goes flat as
it dries out. While it's sometimes a good idea to wait until these changes have
taken place, that varies a great deal from year to year, so it's actually better to
try to harmonize your tuning schedule with the calendar,
to tune it at about the same time(s) every year. Doing it that way seems to average
out the yearly variations, and your piano settles into harmony with the seasons.
That might sound odd to some, but experience seems to bear it out.
